In recognition of Community Living month, we invite you to join us on May 30th for a screening of "Unloved: Huronia's Forgotten Children".
Part detective, part social history story of one woman's quest to uncover the truth about her half-brothers who were institutionalized at the Huronia Regional Centre in Orillia in the 1950's.
This heartbreaking yet redemptive film stands as a microcosm of the immense tragedy of the Western World's 20th-century disastrous treatment of vulnerable, intellectually and developmentally disabled children, youth and adults.
Unloved will be shown at the Century Cinema Theatre at 5:00pm.
We will also be hosting a pre-screening event at the Arts Hub at 4:00pm, as well as a post-viewing debrief and Q&A with KACL staff from 6:30-7:30pm. Light refreshments will be served.
WARNING: This film contains disrespectful language and outmoded disability labels that do not reflect the views of the filmmakers, participants, or of KACL.
The film screening is open to all community members by donation; all proceeds will go to the KACL Endowment Fund.
