Healthy Cooking on a Budget For Older Adults
Join us for a practical and engaging workshop designed to make healthy eating both affordable and enjoyable. Over a shared lunch, participants will hear a presentation on Healthy Eating on a Budget and learn about the Basic Shelf Cookbook, a resource that shows how to turn low-cost pantry staples like oats, rice, beans, and canned vegetables into delicious, nourishing meals.
Together, the group will brainstorm creative ways to use simple ingredients and co-create a hearty stew recipe. This hands-on activity encourages participants to share ideas, explore flavor combinations, and discover new approaches to meal planning that reduce waste and stretch food dollars.
To wrap up the session, each participant will select their own set of ingredients to take home, giving them the opportunity to prepare the recipe in their own kitchen. This workshop supports older adults in maintaining independence, enjoying nutritious food, and staying connected through cooking and community.
