Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) was developed by a team of researchers at Stanford University. It’s a self-management education workshop for people with a variety of chronic health conditions. It aims to build participants’ confidence in managing their health and keep them active and engaged in their life. Participants attend a 2 1⁄2-hour interactive workshop once a week for 6 weeks to learn problem-solving, decision-making, and other techniques for managing problems common to people with chronic diseases.
In a typical workshop, participants set a realistic goal for the upcoming week and develop an action plan for meeting that goal. They report on their progress at the following workshop and solicit feedback from the group to help address any challenges.
This workshop series is delivered VIRTUALLY and organized by NorWest Community Health Centres in Thunder Bay, ON. Workshop series is open to all Northwestern Ontario residents and is free.

Empowering Women. Honouring Legacy. Celebrating Community.
The Lake of the Woods Women’s Walleye Tournament is Canada’s largest all-women’s walleye fishing tournament, held annually in the scenic Harbourtown centre of Kenora, Ontario. What began in 2015 as a grassroots event inspired by the late Lynda Richardson, a beloved community leader and champion of women’s empowerment, has since grown into a celebrated tradition on the shores of Lake of the Woods.
Now entering its 11th year, the tournament welcomes women of all experience levels to fish in a supportive, inclusive environment. It features two divisions — one for teams who captain their own boats and another for teams who fish with a driver — ensuring accessibility while encouraging growth and confidence on the water. The Reeling Rookies (with driver) is full but the Reeling Queens (no driver) still has team openings. Register with Fishdonkey. https://tourney.fishdonkey.com/#/
The tournament uses a Catch, Record and Release format to protect the walleye population and promote conservation ethics. Beyond the fishing, the event offers a new family-friendly event Fin-Tastic Kid Zone and an exciting Awards Celebration followed by a fun, public dance with Shadow Junction.
With its roots in community, empowerment, and sport, LOTWWWT continues to uplift women, support local charities, and inspire the next generation of anglers — one cast at a time!
